SELF-DECOMPRESSION TECHNIQUES: Use one or more of these low back decompression techniques if/when you are feeling compressed. These are safe for most people, but it might not feel great for those with severe instability. Decrease intensity to remain within tolerances.

Here's the list of options:

  • Partial squat, hands on upper thighs, lock elbows straight, push down.
  • Lay across a chair or yoga ball with arms and legs on opposing sides lightly pulling inward.
  • Sit in arm chair, push down on chair arms to suspend buttocks off the seat.
  • Dead hang from a bar.
  • Hang on doorknobs and lean hips back.
  • Lean over counter with elbows locked straight and suspend legs.
  • Banded Butterfly Naps.
